The Accountancy Profession in the UK and Ireland

30 January, 2024

CCAB has published a report, The Accountancy Profession in the UK and Ireland, prepared on our behalf by Oxford Economics.

This third report seeks to demonstrate the value of accountants to both the UK and Irish economies in terms of commerce, number of members and accountancy firms, GDP contribution, employment, tax revenues and purchase and export of accounting services.

For the first time, the report also considers the profession’s wider contributions to society. Quantitative analysis is supplemented by member case studies which provide a snapshot of the positive contributions that accountants are making in the areas of diversity and inclusion, skills, and sustainability.

The report concludes that the profession plays an important role in facilitating the activities of businesses in all sectors of the economy, particularly during times of fiscal uncertainty, and is supporting growth in the UK and Ireland.
